Coercion & Manipulation

Updated: Sep 16, 2025

I was reminded this week of the power of coercion and manipulation that surrounds what we see and hear. I was also reminded of how difficult it is to pull back and think about what it is we are feeling about what is in front of us, do we really want to be viewing this or listening?. Sounds relatively easy, doesn't it? Just pull back and close off, not so fast. After all, as horrible as many things are, we seem to be fixated on looking, unable to avert our eyes or thoughts away from what is in front of us. Why?

Personally, I don't have all the clever and philosophical answers, but I do know that in some odd way, we hope the next time we watch the nightmare will be over or at least have changed significantly. Human nature, the human condition. There is some sense in what I am saying here. Pulling back gives us space and time to reflect on our choices and why we make the choices we do, as our greater learning and understanding emerge from these observations. What is the saying," better to ask the questions than to know the answers"

I have been paying attention to this myself as I, too, navigate the significant changes that are now well underway in our psyche and our world. As an older person, all of this has been enormously challenging and exciting at the same time. What a kaleidoscope! It sometimes feels like I am watching a movie. What is the uptake from all of this? The universe constantly reminds me that I chose this time to be here, and my soul is benefitting greatly from the daily walking and bumping that takes place between me and others. I continue to delight and sometimes squirm at the lessons, but life is exciting, and the opportunities are greater than ever before for new experiences and the joy that comes from reaching out, stretching and growing.

To each and everyone of you, stretch, allow yourselves to experience more of your lives, the benefits are enormous.

Blessings from me Wallis
